Qualitative Characteristics and Citation Behaviors of Thai Research Journals in Thai-Journal Citation Index Database

This article studied the qualitative characteristics and citation behavior of Thai academic journals, by considering the number of publication and citation of Thai academic journals from various publishing sources, subject categories and journal ages. In this work, we used 166 journal titles published during the years of 2001-2006 listed in Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI) database. It was found that journals run by professional society publishers had the highest numbers of çpublication per journalé and çcitation per articleé, the most pronounced being observed for medical science category. Journals run by university publishers had lowest numbers of çcitation per articleé as found in multidisciplinary sciences category. The greater the journal ages the higher the numbers of çpublication per journalé and çcitation per articleé. According to citations in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED) suggested that the journals çThe Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Healthé and çJournal of the Medical Association of Thailandé had a potential to be indexed in the SCI-EXPANDED database.
